The CW has released the official synopsis for "The Vampire Diaries" return episode, "The Descent". The holiday hiatus ends January 27th with what's sure to be an amazing episode.

DOOM, GLOOM AND PERSONAL GROWTH — Stefan has his own ideas about Elena’s new plan for the future. While Damon tries to get the truth out of Jules , he asks Elena to keep an eye on Rose, a situation that turns unexpectedly dangerous. Caroline and Matt try to be honest about their feelings for one another, and Tyler’s reaction to Caroline’s generosity comes as a surprise to her. Damon struggles to hide his true feelings when a life-and-death crisis hits him harder than he expected. Matt Davis also stars.

Ausiello: Necks. Funny. The long-awaited Bonnie-Jeremy smooch will finally be sealed in February/March. Right around the same time, Elena decides that the only way to save her family and friends is to sacrifice herself to Klaus (role still being cast).
Question: Can you tell us something about how Tyler and Caroline’s relationship is going to develop on The Vampire Diaries? —Nuria
Ausiello: It’s going to develop into a (wait for it… ) triangle. And the third wheel’s name?! (Drumroll… ) Matt!

Thanks to TVRage we have a brief synopsis to share for "The Vampire Diaries", "The Descent". As we've seen from the promo for the January 27th episode, things will be getting sticky and more lives are likely to be lost.

Stefan and Alaric try to find Isobel to ask her about Klaus, but useless. Elena and Rose are having a sincere conversation, speaking about her feelings to both brothers. Damon tries a lot to break the werewolf curse and save Rose, while she`s dying painfully and is a threat for everyone in a town. Some new facts about Jules come out making everyone a bit afraid of her. Caroline is uncertain about her feelings for Tyler and wants him to be a good friend only for some time. Everything changes when someone dies.
